Data from a 2year study describe tobacco use trends, perceptions, and prevention effects for 1, 281 5th and 6th graders enrolled in 12 randomly selected Washington State elementary schools. However, adolescents increased their use of smokeless tobacco between 2008 and 2010. Rates remained fairly steady from 2010 to 2015. 2 Although 6 percent of 12 th graders used smokeless tobacco in the past 30 days (in 2015), this is not as high as during the mid1990s (when use peaked at 12 percent in 1995).
